This is a great beginning for your simple living week. That way you will do what is most important for you, not just live a generic "simple life."

Love your stuff, here, Jolie. I was in DC a few times in the mid 90's during the Clinton administration, and DC was totally different from what you describe. People would come up to us to help us find our way around. They were very friendly and helpful. Hang in there; perhaps things will turn around.

Hmm...hard to know how to comment. I am an "optimistic idealist". I am willing to "approach" each new person as a good human being...but...only to "approach" them this way. You say you think good people make a series of bad decisions or are in a series of challenging circumsatances and end up doing something bad. Kathy says behavior and attitude is genetics. I think it is probably both and it doesn't matter. Either way, there are some bad people. MY Papa used to read the prayer asking for the wisdom to know what can be changed and what cannot. One can spend a great deal of energy tipping at windmills trying to change bad people. You need to cut them loose. I think "Efficient Idealism" requires you to identify excellent human beings and build strong and lasting relationships with them. They will nourish you (and you them). Identify good people and help them be better (it is amazing how much better this makes you). Recognize bad human beings and avoid them. They will drain, corrupt, and impede you.

My Myers Briggs were usually INTJ :)
Rob would say it is genetics.
Champion of the underdogs for sure.
Even your presidential choice musings are familiar. It will be hard to keep the "Goodness in everyone" belief but I hope you always will meet only those who reinforce it.
Looking forward to all your posts.

How different we are. I will tell you where and what to eat, if you tell me how to feel about religion, having children, universal health care, and the war.
