Simple Living Week 1: Values

For week 1 of the Simple Living process that I’ve undertaken, I am creating a simplicity statement. This involves making a list of what is most important to me, what I value most in life, and what I want to do in my life.  By putting these priorities in writing, I can focus on these aspects of my life and strive to make room for them. The following lists are in no particular order, but do reflect some of the things I consider most important to me right now.

What Do I Want to Do in Life?

  • Travel
  • Earn my Graduate degree
  • Work for Nonprofit Sustainability
  • Continue my yoga practice
  • Never Stop Learning

What do I Value Most?

  • Family
  • Connectivity
  • Peacefulness
  • Integrity
  • Service

Statement:

My life is full of continuous learning, sharing, and service, and my activities develop and support interconnectivity, a feeling of family, and peacefulness.

This statement, of course, will be modified with time to better reflect where I am in my life, but, right now, I know that I have a deep-seeded need to serve others and make connections, and at the same time to never stop my process of learning.  If I can focus on these main aspects of my life, I believe I will have fulfilled the purpose of my existence.

  1. This is a great beginning for your simple living week. That way you will do what is most important for you, not just live a generic “simple life.”
